The Printing Process

Producing an archival photographic or fine art print edition generally involves the following five steps:

Digital Capture   All prints begin with a scan or digital photograph of the original image. A great looking print is entirely dependent on this first step. We provide the very best in professional quality scans and digital photography of 35 mm slides, chromes, and original artwork. If you already have a digital file of the image you wish to print, please check to make sure it is suitable for printing by reading our PDF: iolabs Guide to Photographic and Fine Art Printing.

Color Correction  After scanning is complete, we adjust and correct files for optimum print and color results. In many cases, we will be matching the file to the original work or to the artist’s chrome.

Proofing  We then test print the color corrected files on the desired media. Test prints enable us to make fine adjustments and modifications to ensure each client’s satisfaction. Once the desired look is achieved we make a final printed proof for future matching reference.
